Established in 1902 in Kameoka, our workshop specializes in stone carving for temple architecture and Japanese gardens.
Through craftsmanship rooted in Kyoto’s aesthetic tradition, we translate stone―imbued with the memory of the land―into cultural form, carrying it forward to the next generation.
1902年の創業から亀岡の地にて、寺社建築や日本庭園における石材の加工と彫刻を専門とする工房。
土地の記憶を持つ石という素材を技術によって文化として翻訳し次世代に継承している。
History
In the Kameoka Basin, once a vast lake, layers of ancient geology and human aesthetic sensibility came together to nurture a distinctive stone culture. Hoki granite, whetstones, and garden stones—materials and crafts that quietly supported the beauty of the capital. Their history is deeply intertwined with the work of SAIDA.
かつて湖だった亀岡の盆地では、太古の地層と人の審美眼が重なり、特別な石の文化が育まれてきました。法貴みかげ、砥石、庭石――都の美を裏から支えた素材と仕事。その歴史は、斉田石材の営みと深く結びついています。

Just 30 minutes by train from Kyoto Station, beyond the bamboo groves of Arashiyama and the Hozu Gorge, the Kameoka Basin opens wide.
People have lived here for over 1,500 years, and among its many cultural traditions lies a rich history of stonemasonry.
At SAIDA, you are invited to visit Kameoka, a place deeply connected to stone, where you can create alongside master artisans and experience the life, heritage, and passage of time that shape their craft.
京都駅から電車で30分、嵯峨嵐山の竹林や保津峡を越えたら亀岡盆地が広がる。1500年も前から人々が暮らし、その数多くある文化の中にある石工の歴史。SAIDAを訪れることで、石と深い歴史的つながりをもつ職人とともに制作を行いながら、その背景にある暮らしと時間を体感できます。
